About
We are a group of citizens unified in our love of Slippery Rock Creek of Western Pennsylvania! Our goal is to encourage vigilance in protecting our beloved stream and its tributaries. We aim to encourage discussion, promote clean-up and maintenance, and when needed, be a call-to-action group raising awareness through action.
Current battle:
Our latest fight is stop a cold-mix asphalt producer from starting a new plant at the corner of Rt. 108 and Stoughton Rd, which is roughly 8-10 miles upstream from McConnell's Mill State Park. Asphalt plants contribute to a myriad of public health and environmental problems, including 24/7 truck traffic, noise & air pollution, and an industrial eyesore in a pristine, treasured area enjoyed by many!
Please check our blog posts for the latest updates, and how to attend and/or participate in the next hearings.
Victories
In 2020, We recently convinced Slippery Rock Township (Butler) supervisors to decline the request to rezone property from our conservation district to an industrial zone!
Future Projects:
Upcoming projects will include investigation of Allegheny Mineral clear cutting up to our creek in Worth Township, in violation of DEP standards and township plans; the information gathering of clear pollution caused by the mining operation above McConnell's Mill State Park; the planning of clean-up occasions; and growing our relations with like-minded groups, such as the Allegheny Aquatic Alliance.
If you love our stream as much as we do, the, please join us! Together, we can make a difference!
